Drug dealer tripped over fence moments after fleeing police outside Northampton flat

A 27-year-old who had a shock when he discovered police inside his Northampton home has been jailed for three years for supplying Class A drugs.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “On the morning of March 4, 2026, the Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a warrant under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act at a flat in the town’s Balfour Road.

“While the team were still inside the address, Barron Madziva pressed the outside buzzer and received an unwelcomed surprise when a police officer opened the door!

“Knowing that he was wanted by Northamptonshire Police after he failed to answer police bail in connection with drug offences in Leicester Street, Northampton, on April 2, 2025, Madziva ran off, quickly followed by the officer,” the spokesperson added.

“However, he didn’t get far and was soon detained in Barrack Road after he tripped and fell on the floor after attempting to jump over a small metal fence.

“Madziva was searched and individual wraps of suspected Class A drugs were found concealed within his clothing. A white iPhone and £85 were also seized and he was arrested on suspicion of supplying heroin and cocaine.

“Madziva, of no fixed address, was subsequently charged with four counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (heroin and cocaine) in connection with both arrests on April 2 last year and March 4.

“He was remanded into custody after magistrates committed his case to Northampton Crown Court for trial, but on August 13, before the jury were sworn in, Madziva changed his plea to guilty,” the spokesperson said.

He was sentenced on the same day to a total of three years imprisonment and ordered to pay £228 victim surcharge. A forfeiture and destruction order was also made to destroy the drugs and mobile phone, the spokesperson added.

In addition to this, the judge made a forfeiture application under Section 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, for the seized money to be redirected to the Northamptonshire Community Fund, which provides financial support to charities.

Lead investigator, Detective Emma Powell of the West CID team, said: “Drug harm remains a priority for the Force, and we will continue to relentlessly enforce and disrupt dealers, who bring misery to our streets and communities.

“I am pleased with the sentence handed to Barron Madziva, and hope this encourages anyone with concerns about drug dealing within their community to keep reporting suspicious activity to us as we will act on the information.”
