Driver who fled after wrecking luxury Maserati and BMW with family hatchback on Northampton A45 sentenced

Magistrates banned a VW Golf driver who caused a four-vehicle smash, wrecking a Maserati and luxury BMW and leaving a number of people injured on Northampton’s A45.

According to court documents, Wayne Halliday then fled the scene of the crash in his grey family hatchback on June 13, 2025, and failed to report the collision to police. He left behind a damaged Maserati Quattroporte DV6 and BMW 740D SE plus two people with injuries.

Reports say the incident started when Halliday’s Golf collided with the Maserati on the Nene Valley Way between Riverside Retail Park and the Billing Interchange. The 42-year-old of Sotherby Rise, Bellinge, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention plus two further charges of failing to stop after a road accident where damage was caused to another vehicle and failing to report that accident “at a police station or to a constable as soon as was reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours of the occurrence of the accident” at a hearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on April 29.

A statement of facts from the court added that Halliday then forced his way between the black BMW and another identified vehicle to flee the scene, pushing the BMW into the central reservation, causing injuries to occupants. It is understood that the fourth vehicle has never been identified and also left the scene.

Halliday was handed an instant disqualification from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay fines totalling £440 plus £130 towards prosecution costs.
