Driver denies causing death of Northampton jogger by careless driving

A 23-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a jogger by careless driving on the A508 on the edge of Northampton.

Antony Monk, of Shelleycotes Road, Brixworth, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with causing the death of Mary Davies, aged 61, by driving without due care and attention.

The court heard Ms Davies, of Little Billing, Northampton, died after she was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Astra being driven by Monk on the A508 between Boughton and Pitsford at about 8.30pm on April 15 last year.

Davies, who was training for the London Marathon with a group of joggers, was crossing the road from a footpath on the opposite side of the road when the collision with Monk’s car happened.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case. Monk will appear at Northampton Crown Court in April.
