A woman has been spared jail after drunkenly crashing her car in Northamptonshire while her five-year-old daughter was on board.

Danielle Gates, of Victoria Place, Banbury, was arrested on the afternoon of March 1 after a crash on Banbury Road, Chacombe, that saw her car flip over and over before landing on its roof.

A member of the public who helped the 33-year-old at the scene of the crash reportedly later told police they saw a number of empty alcohols bottles in the foot well of the car.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they charged Gates with being drunk and in charge of a child on a highway - because her five-year-old daughter had been in the car when she was driving.

Later, the 33-year-old failed to provide a specimen to police to test her alcohol levels. It also emerged she was driving without a valid MOT.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash.

Gates later pleaded guilty to all charges. At her sentencing at Northampton Magistrate's Court yesterday (June 3) Gates was disqualified from driving for 36 months and was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for two years.

She will also have to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitation requirement.
