Drink driver caught behind the wheel of van in Northampton one day after court bans him
Northampton magistrates slapped down a serial disqualified drink driver who was caught behind the wheel AGAIN just a day after he walked out of court with another ban.
According to court documents, 53-year-old Gareth Mundy appeared in court on February 3, 2026 to plead guilty to charges of drink driving and driving without a licence two days earlier. But he was then stopped by police again on February 4 and hauled back to court the following day.

Mundy, of Hesketh Road, Yardley Gobion blew more than twice the legal limit when he was caught driving a Mazda 323 in Chestnut Road — less than a mile from his home address — on February 1. Tests showed 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit of 35mg. He also admitted driving while carrying a disqualification from a previous offence.
He was given a community order with 120 hours unpaid work, ordered to pay £85.00 towards prosecution costs and was banned for 28 months.
Yet the day after that appearance, Mundy was caught driving a Peugeot Expert van on Upton Way, Northampton.
At a second court appearance, magistrates decided the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified “because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders, driving one day after being disqualified by the court’.
Magistrates handed Mundy a 12 week prison term suspended for 18 months and extended his ban even further to 34 months. They also ordered him to pay another £85 towards prosecution costs.
