A dog walker was knocked to the ground during a row with another pet owner in a Northampton park yesterday.

Detectives revealed the 43-year-old victim was walking his pet in Thornton Park, at the junction of Mill Lane and Kingsthorpe Road, when he was approached by another dog not on a lead.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The man asked the owner to put his dog on a lead but he became verbally aggressive, before assaulting the victim, knocking him to the ground.

"The offender is described as a white man, aged 45, 5ft 10in, of a stocky build with dark grey hair and beard. He was wearing a red t-shirt.

"He was with another man who did not get involved in the incident.

"If anyone was in Thornton Park at around 12.45 on Wednesday (July 8) and believes they may have seen this incident, or may have information that could be useful to us, please contact the police by calling 101 using reference number 20000348830."
