Discovery of human bones near A45 in Northampton not being treated as suspicious, say police

Detectives believe remains belonged to a person who went missing "some years ago"

Detectives are not treating as suspicious the discovery of human bones near a Northampton footpath earlier this month.

They believe the remains belong to a person who went missing "some years ago."

Detective Inspector Tim Craven said: “Our investigations into this incident have concluded and I can confirm that we are not treating the discovery of these bones as involving any suspicious circumstances.

“We believe them to belong to a man registered as a missing person some years ago and his family have been informed.

“We are now in the process of presenting a report to the coroner.”

A walker found what appeared to be a human skull on a path next to the A45, between Hardingstone and Delapre.

Officers set up a crime scene, taping off a large area and erecting and two tents set up while forensic investigators spent days digging out and combing the area for clues following the gruesome find on February 4.

A Home Office expert pathologist was also called into to help with examination of the remains in an effort to find an identity and pinpoint how long the bones had been there.
