Would-be burglars fled empty-handed after trying to break into a Northampton house they thought was empty.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the pair scarpering along Balfour Road at around 12.15pm on July 23.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The two offenders attempted to force open the front door using with an unknown tool but they ran off after being disturbed by the occupier.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time."
