Police are treating Tuesday's incident at the Racecourse as 'suspicious'

Police are treating an incident at Northampton's Racecourse as "suspicious" after three young girls were approached and followed.

Officers want witnesses to come forward if they saw the girls playing between 3pm and 5pm on Tuesday (April 27).

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The three young girls were playing at the park when they were approached by a man who engaged them in conversation.

"He then walked with them to on a route to Semilong, along Leicester Street, Barrack Road, Adelaide Street and Alliston Gardens. They then walked past the Co-op, along Semilong Road towards Gordon street.

"None of the children were harmed during the incident."

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information to call 101 using incident number 21000231269.
