Detectives investigating Northampton skate park murder release dashcam footage of two people they want to speak to

Police investigating a fatal stabbing at a skate park in Northampton have released dashcam footage of two people they want to speak to.

Today (Wednesday February 25), detectives investigating the murder and attempted murder have released CCTV footage of two people who they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “They would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in Kings Heath, Duston, Upton and Briar Hill areas of Northampton, between 2pm and 4pm last Wednesday (February 18), and who has dash-cam footage of their journey.

“The investigation team would also like to hear from any residents and businesses, who may have CCTV or doorbell footage from the relevant timings and date, which captures two males on electric motorcycles travelling in convoy, to please get in touch.”

Detective Inspector Matt Bly of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) Major Crime team, who is leading the murder investigation, added: “Mason’s death has left his family with unanswered questions, and they deserve to know what has happened to their loved one.

“We know that the key to this investigation lies within the local community, and it is possible that some people have captured those responsible for the stabbings on CCTV or dash-cam footage and may not realise that they have vital information which could help us.

“However small or insignificant you believe the information is, if you have not already done so, please get in touch as a matter of urgency. Any little detail may help us piece together what happened both before and after the incident at the skate park.”

Police also confirmed that on Tuesday February 24, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and manslaughter. He remains in custody.

A 16-year-old boy, who was arrested on Sunday February 22 on suspicion of violent disorder and manslaughter, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A number of other people arrested during the investigation have also been released.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that three teenagers, aged 17, 17 and 16, arrested on suspicion of murder and a 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been eliminated from the enquiries.

A 56-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have also been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Three other boys – two aged 15 and one aged 14 - were also arrested on suspicion of murder, but are now not being investigated for murder. They did, however, appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday February 21 charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. The were granted conditional bail and placed in the care of the local authority, according to Northamptonshire Police.
