Detectives investigating a botched burglary in Northampton earlier this month have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

Two men using bolt croppers to cut the lock on a garage door fled empty-handed through the streets of Duston after triggering an alarm.

But they were spotted by security cameras and the occupant of a house in The Scarplands who was woken by the break-in between 11pm and 11.55pm on March 9.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman revealed: "The occupant of the house was woken after his garage alarm was activated and he saw two men using bolt croppers to break into his property.

"He then challenged the offenders who fled on foot down The Scarplands and on to Stanfield Road.

"Both offenders were described as white, in their late teens or early 20s and slim. Both had on dark-coloured hooded tops and tracksuit bottoms, and dark trainers. One was about 5ft 10in tall, the other about 6ft.

"Our officers would like to speak to anyone who can help identify the man in this photo, or who may have seen two men fitting this description in The Scarplands area between 11pm and midnight on March 9."
