A 'depraved' predator from Northampton who sexually abused three girls and manipulated them into staying silent with money has been jailed for 18 years.

David Millan was found guilty of 18 counts of sexual assault against the girls. The 65-year-old, formerly of Brunswick Place, will have to spend an extra four years on licence because the judge believed he was a danger to the public should he leave prison.

He must spend at least 10 years and eight months behind bars before the parole board considers him for release to spend the rest of his sentence on licence, though.

At Northampton Crown Court on Friday (November 13), His Honour Judge David Herbert told him: "It's clear to me, from your evidence and conduct, you have no shame for what you did and you are entirely without remorse for your actions.

"Your boasts and actions were shameful and trample on the principle of basic human decency - you should be ashamed by what you did but you clearly never will be."

The girls were abused consecutively as once one managed to stop him, he moved on to another teenager.

The court heard how he used repeated offers of sometimes significant amounts of money from his mother's inheritance to persuade them to keep quiet, the judge said. He would also have been aware they were underage, the court heard.

Once, when one of his victims wanted to tell someone about the abuse, he threatened to kill himself with a knife and only stopped when she agreed not to.

Judge Herbert said: "It is also clear to me you have no understanding of the harm you caused to each of these girls.

"One said it has had a significant effect on her and she's unable to forget the control you have over her.

"She's also uncomfortable around older people, especially men and scared of the future. You took part of her childhood from her.

"Another said she has nightmares, sleepless nights, stress and epileptic seizures as a result of your abuse.

"The third feels numb and struggles to talk about it. The impact on all of them can not be fully known but it's clear it's significant."

Furthermore, Millan would take indecent photographs of the girls which he would then use when with a sex worker 'to satisfy his depraved sexual fantasies', the judge added.

His sentence was aggravated by a previous conviction in 2002 for a series of sexual offences against children, which he spent 10 years in jail for.

Judge Herbert gave him three consecutive sentences for the most serious offences of 10 years, five years and three years in jail, plus the extended period on licence.
