Crimestoppers campaign launched in Northampton neighbourhood after residents raise concerns about drug activity, fly-tipping and more

A campaign has been launched by Crimestoppers in a Northampton neighbourhood after residents raised concerns about drug activity, fly-tipping and more.

Crimestoppers has launched a new campaign in Semilong to raise awareness of its anonymous reporting service and to encourage residents to speak up about crime affecting their community.

The campaign is run in partnership with Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone and youth service Fearless, and focuses on issues including acquisitive and neighbourhood crime, drug-related activity and environmental concerns such as fly-tipping.

According to Crimestoppers, during a study tour carried out in the area by Danielle Stone, residents raised concerns about these on-going issues in their area.

Danielle Stone, the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “People should be able to live free of crime and the fear of crime. This campaign will give people a way of reporting what they know easily and anonymously and they should know that the information they give will be helping to strengthen their community.”

The campaign aims to increase awareness of Crimestoppers’ services and give local people the confidence to report information anonymously. It will also see bus stop advertising across over the next two months, alongside targeted leaflet distribution and social media activity, which will launch from mid-June.

Crimestoppers is asking residents to tell them about those they know are committing burglaries and vehicle crime, where and when planned break-ins will take place, people who are selling stolen goods and where, those they know are selling drugs and those who have unexplained wealth.

Lydia Patsalides, East Midlands Regional Manager for the charity Crimestoppers, added: “I feel it’s important that people know they have a voice and can speak up about crime in their community completely anonymously. Some people have information about crime but feel they don’t have anywhere or anyone to turn to.

"Please remember that Crimestoppers and our youth service Fearless are here to help. We do not judge or take any personal details from those who contact us. All we want is the information you have, you will remain 100 percent anonymous. In over 35 years, we have always kept our promise of anonymity to everyone who contacts us.”
