A man who smashed up a takeaway in Burton Latimer after claiming his chips didn't have enough cheese on has been left with a hefty bill.

Gary Lovell's violent actions were captured on CCTV after he angrily accused staff at Danny's Pizza & Grill in High Street of getting his order wrong on October 15 last year.

After being shown the cheese on his chips, Lovell claimed there was no burger in his bun and was again shown he was incorrect.

But in a fit of rage the 36-year-old started gesticulating towards staff and threw food at them.

He then smashed an LED screen and a radio, pushed a till onto the floor and slammed a door before leaving.

CCTV footage was shared with police and Lovell, who also uses the alias Gary Beetson, was later arrested.

Earlier this month at Northampton Magistrates' Court Lovell, of Brighton Road in Alvaston near Derby, admitted assaulting takeaway owner Danny Yekta and criminal damage.

Speaking after the sentencing, Mr Yekta told the Northants Telegraph: "If people do something wrong they deserve to be punished.

"They cannot go around doing stuff like that willy nilly.

"People go through enough c**p without having to deal with something as stupid and minor as that."

Lovell was fined a total of £800 and must pay compensation of £500.

Court costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £80 left him with a total bill of £1,465, which he will have to pay at a rate of £100 per month.
