Bomb disposal experts were called to a village in Northamptonshire this morning (Saturday) after anti-aircraft shells were found in a garage clearout.

A police spokesman said they were called to Bricketts Lane in Flore after the discovery at about 10.25am.

Two 40mm rounds - which the spokesman said were 18in long - were discovered when a family was clearing out a garage.

An explosive ordnance disposal team X-rayed the shells, which were from the Second World War, with police parked nearby in Springfield.

The shells were confirmed to be empty and the scene was declared safe shortly after.
