Aston Martin driver escapes fine because 1950s speedo was not working when he was clocked at 46mph in Northamptonshire

Magistrates accept evidence DB2 fault meant driver was not aware how fast he was going

An Aston Martin driver escaped a hefty fine because the speedometer on his classic car was faulty.

Northamptonshire Police enforcement cameras clocked Neil Armstrong, 54, driving his Aston Martin DB2/4 at 46mph on a 40mph stretch of the A45 near Daventry in March 2020.

Mr Armstrong, from Willoughby near Rugby, admitted the offence but Northampton magistrates gave him an absolute discharge after accepting evidence that the vehicle’s speedo was not working correctly, making the driver unaware he was speeding.
