Asbo laws used to boot rowdy tenants out of two Northampton homes

Nuisance tenants have been kicked out of two homes in Northampton and the properties sealed after repeated complaints of disorder.

Two houses in Kingsthorpe, were served with closure orders under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Northamptonshire Police, in partnership with Northampton Borough Council and Northampton Partnership Homes, served the orders, after it was granted by Northampton Magistrates’ Court.

The properties, 40 Newnham Road and 18 Kingsland Gardens, were sealed by Northampton Partnership Homes and will be subject to closure for three months.

Officers presented evidence that the closure was necessary as they were “resulting in nuisance to the local community and the closure would prevent the disorder from continuing.”

Sergeant Wyn Hughes, from the North East Safer Community Team, said: “This legislation is very effective at closing premises that cause a nuisance to the public and we will actively seek to use it where the evidence allows us to do so.”
