Arrest made after fire at sheltered housing in Northamptonshire

Police, the fire service, and paramedics were called to Saxon House, in Brampton Way, Brixworth, at 1.17pm today after reports of a fire at the site.

Saxon House is run by Daventry & District Housing and comprises of 30 self-contained flats.

A Daventry & District Housing spokesperson said: “On Thursday afternoon a fire was discovered at one of the properties inside our Saxon House scheme in Brixworth.

“The fire was discovered by an on site member of Daventry & District Housing (DDH) staff. It was isolated to one flat but did cause significant damage to this property.

“In line with the policy adopted at all of our schemes, a stay put procedure was implemented during the fire. This meant that tenants remained in their property with the door closed after the fire alarm went off.

“A small number of residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

“A team of DDH staff has been on site at Saxon House since the fire to provide support and reassurance to the residents.”

The emergency services remained at the scene until shortly before 5pm.

Northamptonshire Police say a woman in her 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson. She was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
