Armed robber threatens man who got off Wellingborough train

A man was threatened by an armed robber after refusing to give him a cigarette when he got off a train at Wellingborough's station.

Police have arrested a suspect after the incident which started when the victim, aged 19, got off the train at the town's railway station between 10.55pm and 11.05pm on Friday, December 18.

He was asked by another man, who was on a nearby bench, for a cigarette but refused.

The man then chased him, causing the victim to fall over, and threatened him with a knife and demanded he handed over his bag.

The teenager refused and the man took it and walked off towards the station.

A police spokesman said: "He is described as white, aged 20 to 24, 5ft 9in, of a slim build with blond hair which was in cornrow braids.

"He was wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans and trainers."

A 20-year-old man from Kettering has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
