Company set to swap Northampton's Toby Carvery for upmarket steakhouse

Plans have been lodged by pub chain Mitchells & Butlers to change its Toby Carvery in Talavera Way, Northampton into a Miller and Carter Steak restaurant.

The Pub company owns both brands.

There are currently 43 Miller and Carter outlets across the UK, with the nearest being on Finham, Coventry.

It is understood the current staff at Toby Carvery could be offered a job at the new venue, which would serve a selection of steaks and grills towards the higher end of the family dining price scale.

Mitchells and Butler claims the Miller and Carter brand sells over one million steaks a year.

All its managers and chefs attend a two-day “Steak School” which sees their training start “at the farm” and end “in the kitchen”, the company says.

The firm has only lodged plans to change the outer appearance of the Toby Carvery to the new branding as it does not need to make a change of use application.

The new restaurant would include a parasol-sheltered outdoor seating area and the brand’s usual bull statue at the front of the restaurant, which is next to the Travelodge on the Round Spinney roundabout.

Northampton Borough Council is set to make a decision on the application by August 15.
