Chris Wilder and Phil Neville in the press box at Sixfields tonight as Cobblers take on Man Utd
Former international footballers will take up seats alongside the great and good of football broadcasting at the Northampton Town tonight... and Chris Wilder will make a welcome return too.
All eyes will be on Sixfields tonight as the Cobblers take on Manchester United for a place in the EFL cup fourth round.
And with Jose Mourinho’s multi-million pound flops under fire for a string of poor performances, the game has taken on added significance.
Sky Sports, BBC Radio Five Live, Talk Sport and MUTV will all be broadcasting from the match tonight. Highlights of the game will be on Channel Five.
For Talk Sport, former Republic of Ireland International Matt Holland will take up a folding seat alongside Mark Saggers and Sam Matterface.
For Sky, Daniel Mann and former player Danny Higginbotham are on commentary duty - while in the studio, Simon Thomas will appear alongside former Cobblers manager Chris Wilder.
The broadcasters have yet to confirm their third pundit - but former England international Phil Neville’s Twitter feed hints that it might be him.
This morning he tweeted: “Morning - @ManUtd vs @ntfc for me tonight on @SkyFootball from 19.30 - early start.”
Communications officer, Gareth Willsher, who will be dishing out the press passes tonight, said; “This is possibly the biggest national agenda we have had here.”
But when considering it is almost a year to the day that the Cobblers were issued with legal proceedings about the non-payment of a £10.25 million loan, tonight’s spectacle is all the more remarkable.
It has been an incredible 12 months,” said Mr Willsher. “You could have written a film script about it.
“Tonight will be a fantastic night for the town.”
The national printed media will also be in force at Sixfields tonight.
The Daily Mail, the Guardian, The Sun, The Mirror and the Telegraph have all been issued a pass for their football corespondents.
