Car on top of Super Sausage II cafe in Northampton scrapped
For the past 22 years, motorists on the Towcester Road have been able to spot the red Buick Lesabre 1975 perched on top of Super Sausage II.
But the car, which has been painted a variety of colours over the years, has been taken down to allow the roof to be refurbished and has been scrapped.

Hide AdPaul Bacon, co-owner of the Super Sausage cafe, said the Buick would not be put back up, but he was hoping to source an alternative American car.
A crane was needed to remove the one-tonne shell of the car, which was lifted up there in 1994.
Mr Bacon said: “The roof has needed to be re-felted for a long time and we’ve hung on and hung on, but it’s come to the point where we have to do it.
“The car has also become a nesting home for the local pigeon population.

“I’d like to put another American car, it’s just a matter of finding one available without an engine.”
Mr Bacon, who also runs the Super Sausage cafe in St Andrew’s Road, said he’d always had positive feedback about the iconic decoration - which is clearly visible to anyone travelling on the Towcester Road flyover -and he felt it had help put the cafe on the map.
He said: “When people ask which Super Sausage cafe they mean, they ask, ‘is it the one with the car on the roof?’.

During the 23 years the car has been on the roof of the cafe, it has been painted in the colours of the St George’s flag during World Cups and European Championships.
