Campaign for relief road around Towcester ‘supported at all levels’, says town’s MP

Mrs Leadsom says there is support “at all levels” for the relief road which would stop drivers using the A5 passing through the centre of town.

“This is an issue that was raised with me time and again on doorsteps during the recent General Election campaign, and is of great concern to local residents in the Towcester area,” Mrs Leadsom said.

“Whilst progress on improving traffic flow has been made with the upgrades to the roundabout at the junction of the A5 and A43, significant concerns remain over the movements of heavy-goods vehicles along Watling Street and over the deteriorating air quality in the town.

“There is support at all levels for the Towcester relief road to be delivered as soon as possible, and I have been clear that this is a priority for me in the area.

“The relief road is the most important infrastructure project in South Northamptonshire in the next few years, and I am calling on all parties to ensure that this is delivered quickly for hardworking local people. I will be co-ordinating a meeting in due course between the relevant parties so that real progress on this vital project can be made,” she added.

Following on from positive meetings in recent months, Andrea Leadsom has written to Northamptonshire County Council, South Northamptonshire Council, South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership, and Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership to continue to push for an early delivery of the Towcester relief road.
