BREAKING NEWS: Air ambulance called to A45 in Northampton after car crash

An air ambulance was called to the A45 in Northampton after an accident involving a car earlier this morning.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said they were called to reports of a "single vehicle accident on the A45 eastbound at Barnes Meadow.

In a statement released at 9am, the spokesman said: "The eastbound carriageway is closed between the Queen Eleanor roundabout and Riverside while emergency services attend the scene.

"The westbound carriageway was closed to allow the air ambulance to attend.

"Motorists are being advised to avoid the area for the next couple of hours while the emergency services attend the scene," the spokesman added.

Highways England said recovery was due to be ongoing for some time. In a tweet at 9.10am, they said the westbound carriageway had been released by long delays remain.

The closure of the A45 was having a knock-on effect on nearby roads with Mereway, Towcester Road and the A508 all severely delayed.
