Brackley teenager volunteers as Young Ambassador for meningitis charity

Callum Jones, 16, from Brackley, has become a Young Ambassador for Meningitis Now after his sister Erin, contracted bacterial meningitis.

Erin was diagnosed with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) aged eight as a result of meningitis.

Callum’s role as a Young Ambassador will be to fundraise, raise awareness and provide support to people in his community alongside regional members of the leading UK charity.

Callum said: “I know first-hand how devastating this disease can be so I’m honoured to join the Young Ambassador team.”

He added: “Being a Young Ambassador gives me an opportunity to give something back to a charity that has helped our family so much. I want to ensure that no one in my community goes through meningitis alone.”

Callum and his family have already raised money for Menimgitis Now to thank them for the support they have provided but Callum says he is “keen to do even more”.

Charity chief executive Sue Davie said they are thrilled to have Callum join the other 33 young ambassadors across the UK adding: “His contribution to the charity is commendable, helping us spread awareness and raise vital funds towards eradicating meningitis in the UK.”
