Beacon lighting in Northampton to celebrate 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen

At the event on Thursday, April 21, hosted by chairman of the County Council, Councillor Phil Larratt and HM Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, Sir John Robinson, the beacon will be one of more than 200 lit simultaneously throughout the UK.

People are invited to attend the celebrations at Wootton Community and Sports Centre, Curtlee Hill, Wootton, Northampton from 6.45pm on the day, before the beacon is lit at 8.30pm.

The evening will be compered by BBC Radio Northampton with musical entertainment provided by the Cadet and Corp Drums and the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust. In addition school pupils from Wootton Primary, Caroline Chisholm Primary and Preston Hedges Primary will also be performing.

Councillor Larratt said: “Our country has a tradition of celebrating significant Royal occasions with the lighting of beacons and I’m delighted that we’re able to celebrate this momentous milestone of Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday in this way.

“There’s something very special about being part of this chain of beacons across the country and overseas and it would be great to have as many people along as possible to join in this wonderful occasion.”

As well as throughout the UK, beacons will also be lit in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
