£1m upmarket sports pub - with a chip shop twist - to open in Northampton next week
A new sports pub combined with a fish and chip shop offering one of the largest beer ranges in the county is set to open its doors in Northampton next week.
The Lighthouse, set to create 30 jobs in a former printing shop in Wellingborough Road, will greet punters for the first time on Thursday, June 9.
The £1 million venue is the latest nightspot to come from the Old Northampton Group, which currently owns the Old House, Sazerac and the Department for Meat and Social Affairs in the town.
The Lighthouse will offer more than 50 beers and ales from around the world and a fully fledged fish and chip shop, offering table service or takeaway with a twist - as bottled beers can be ordered for take-out too.
Marketing manager for Northampton Old Group, Gabriella Willmore, said; “This is a venue Northampton is crying out for at the moment.
“It’s a fresh concept with a bit of an edge. Where else can you get craft beers to take away?.”
The company has spent £1 million renovating the Victorian era building, “from the cellar up” installing 14 new super high definition televisions around the venue for sport-loving punters.
The restaurant itself will feature a full seating area, a bar area and a separate take-away counter.
In terms of the menu, pies - the staple of any good chippy menu - will be provided by award winning Bristol firm Pieminster.
Fish will also be “sustainably sourced”, though the venue will not be serving food on a Monday to ensure ingredients are fresh, the owners say, as fish markets are closed on Sundays.
“I think it will be a great place to start the evening,” Miss Willmore said: “Then people can move onto the Old House and then Sazerac - we’ve got the weekend sorted now.”
The venue is set to open to the public at noon a week today, when the winner of the venue’s Beer for a Year competition will be announced.
So far about 120 people have applied for the chance to receive a free beer every day fro 365 days at the venue. To register, head to http://lighthousenn.co.uk/
