The company says the burst occurred at a strategic main on the junction of Duston Road, Tollgate Way and Main Road at around 9am on Saturday morning, causing major disruption to homes in Duston, Upton and Moulton.

A spokesperson for Anglian water said: “We are very sorry that some customers in the Northampton were without water on Saturday because of a burst water main near Main Road.

“We know how inconvenient it is to be without water and our teams worked quickly to restore water supplies to over 9,000 homes.

“Despite our best efforts, 250 households may have experienced interruption to their supply during the time it took to complete the repair. We will be writing to these customers to apologise and offer a goodwill gesture payment.”

Some of those affected, mainly in the NN4 and NN5 areas of Northampton, reported “brown water” coming from their taps as a result of the burst.

Anglian Water says anyone experiencing that or air bubbles in their water supply should run their taps until the problem clears.

The majority of the homes had water running again within four hours of the burst, however some had to wait until around 4pm on Saturday and a further 250 were not reconnected until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The cause of the burst main is not yet known.
