'˜All options open' for future of Northampton pub, say new owners

The Broadmead, in Broadmead Avenue, Abington, was boarded up in the last week after the Trust Inns pub company sold it on, resulting in its closure.

Oak & Lime, which purchased the site on Tuesday, has said no decision on its future has yet been made.

Steven Bratby, technical director, said: “It was just an opportunity that came up. It was offered to the company so we took a look at it.

“I’m waiting for the reports on the pub’s viability before we decide what will happen. We’d like to know what the community thinks as well.

“But at the moment all options are open.”

The outgoing tenants of The Broadmead had been running a car wash business from the car park until Trust Inns asked if they wanted to take on the pub too.

However the business was put up for sale earlier this year, initially with a view to keeping the tenants.

But the deal was done this week for vacant possession and the whole site has now been ringed with a security fence.

Sandeep Raval, owner of the nearby Karmana restaurant, said: “I would like it if the community was consulted about any plans for the site.

“There were some rumours it was going to be new flats. Depending on the details, that could be a good thing for this road.

“But the most important thing is that it’s something which adds to the community.”
