138-year-old note found in ceiling of Althorp State Dining Room

A note written by four workmen who repaired Althorp’s State Dining Room ceiling in 1877-8 has been found 138 years later.

Earl Spencer tweeted a photograph of the note, which stated the ceiling was repaired between November 1877 and January 1878.

The Althorp mansion dates to 1688, replacing an earlier house that was once visited by Charles I.

On the weekend of September 25 and 26 Althorp is to host its first ever food festival.
