Panto in Welton

This time around, Welton Players will be going on a magic carpet ride and taking a trip to the old Orient by performing Aladdin.

The show will be full of bright and colourful characters including the hero Aladdin, the vivacious Widow Twankey and the dastardly Abanazar.

The show will be fully staffed in front of the stage and behind the scenes by a number of volunteers from the local community.

The group’s production will be suitable for all of the family.

The latest production will see the return of director Helen Thorne and BBC Radio Northampton’s Martin Heath will once again be the musical director of the pantomime.

All of the funds left over from the usual production costs including scripts and costumeswill be donated to a number of good causes in the local area.

Groups to have benefitted from the pantomimes in the past include The Royal British Legion and the locally-based charity the Jago Worrall Foundation which was supported by the Daventry Express throughout 2013.

Welton Players’ last production of the pantomime Sleeping Beauty, pictured above, raised £500 at the end of January last year.

The group has spread the money across a number of local good causes including the Welton Guides and St Martin’s Church in the village.

Money has also been donated to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Macmillan Nurses.

No decision has yet been made on which charities will benefit from this year’s production of Aladdin with a decision to be made after the show has finished.

People are recommended to book tickets in advance of the show.

The performances of Aladdin run from Wednesday January 27 to Saturday January 30 and they start at 7.30pm each night.

The group also hopes the pantomime will attract new members to take part in next year’s show.
