A Northampton man, who wishes to remain anonymous, has started an Instagram page documenting the "real" side of the town. The Instagram page is called northamptonmiddleengland and its bio reads: "Linda Jardim gave us the soundtrack to our lives. This account is dedicated to celebrating our vibrant, cheery and growing town." The reason behind the Linda Jardim comment is that the singer released a song in the 70s called "Northampton (60 miles by road or rail)" which was intended to promote the town and encourage people to move here. He said: "The Linda Jardim song was used to promote the town but it really has not gone the way most people wanted." The anonymous photographer said he wants to document the "real" side of the town that you "would not see on an official town advertising Instagram". The man, who is in his late twenties, said: "I'm really in love with Northampton because it's where I'm from. I do love it but I also want to show the real side of it. The pictures are the things I see when I go out for walks. It's just trying to show the real Northampton, really. I think it's very much a post-industrial town where the industry was shoe-making, but it's now very much middle England." He said Northampton has the typical middle England aspects of being under-funded, with a "fantastic" multi-culture, the dying High Streets and more specifically the bankruptcy of the council which was covered on the national news - this all plays a part in his motivation to document the town. The photographer said: "A lot of complaints are now that the town is not very clean and not very cultured. I am trying to highlight that. Back in the 70s the council was trying to get people into the town and I'm trying to call back to that. At the end of the day, it's home. There's a lot to be proud of in Northampton.
