Bar Hygge (pronounced hooga), specialises in craft beers and is the latest new initiative from Royal & Derngate.

As well as serving draught and bottled craft beers, local spirits and wines from the “not beer menu”, and a selection of meats and cheeses, table service and a warm welcome is offered in the relaxed and stylish setting.

Taking inspiration from contemporary Danish design, the bar encourages its customers to embrace the simple pleasures of life.

Bar manager, Alan Lynn, says: “It’s hard to pinpoint a definition for the Danish word hygge. It sits somewhere between warmth and comfort, cosiness and friendship, making the most of every moment, away from worries. We wanted to borrow some of that and bring it to Northampton. Providing an excuse to spend time with friends in great surroundings, we hope people will enjoy the candlelight, the outdoor blankets, the beer and the table service, finding their very own cosy corner in Bar Hygge.”

Chief executive of Royal & Derngate, Martin Sutherland, says: “The success of the Errol Flynn Filmhouse has proved that there is an appetite for a wider variety of leisure and cultural activities in the town centre. I hope that this new development will make a positive contribution to the night-time economy, offering a welcoming environment for people to enjoy a few drinks with friends and colleagues in the Cultural Quarter.”
