Tom Cunningham, hotels and licensed leisure director at Savills, said: “Combining outstanding hospitality and local character, we are excited to bring to market this famous inn, with it’s fascinating history having been enjoyed by many celebrated guests over the years.

"This is a rare opportunity to acquire the freehold to such a characterful property in a great location, with the potential to enhance the high quality offering even further.”

The pub is set within its own grounds and dates back to the 16th century.

The Dickensian coaching inn comprises a timber strewn main bar with two restaurant areas and a fully enclosed courtyard surrounded by stone barns and function rooms suitable as a wedding venue.

The property also includes a manager’s flat with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and lounge as well as a separate studio flat with landscaped gardens surrounding the building and large car park.
