Estate agents bracing themselves for a summer surge as people are ready to get moving again

Estate agents are bracing themselves for a summer rush as the property market gets up and running again.

Around 40 homes in and around Northampton were newly-listed to property website Rightmove in less than 24 hours yesterday — with about the same number of properties already on the market seeing prices reduced.

And estate agents are reporting would-be house buyers are anxious to get moving as the Covid-19 crisis finally eases.

Jackson Grundy is the market leading estate agents in the county with 11 residential sales offices and two lettings branches.

Director, Nick Rees, said: "Whilst we anticipated a spike in activity following the re-opening of our branches, we have been surprised that the level of demand continues and has actually been increasing.

"Last week was our busiest sales week of the year, possibly influenced by the Chancellor’s stamp duty announcement.

"More of an issue for first time buyers with smaller deposits has been lack of access to 90 per cent mortgages, with very few lenders offering them.

"We are, however, informed that more lenders will be making these products available very shortly, and this in the end will probably do more to stimulate and sustain the market than even the stamp duty holiday."

We found a selection of properties in and around Northampton which are brand new on to the market as of Monday — with prices ranging from under £165,000 up to more than £900,000.
