Developer to contribute £1.2m to community as part of new Northampton 118-home estate

A building company has agreed to contributing more than £1.2 million to improve services around the area of its new housing development.
Taylor Wimpey’s St Crispin’s Place development in Upton will see a total 118 new homes built on land off Berrywood Drive and St Crispin Drive.

Hide AdThe site launched in the summer and some properties are ready, but the developer is still building others.
As part of the planning agreement, the company will hand over the sum of £1.2 million to Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council for the authorities to spend on the community.
More than £937,000 has been earmarked for improving early years and primary education, healthcare services will receive a contribution of £88,357 and a further £189,000 will be spent on improving and maintaining open green spaces and outdoor sports facilities in the area.
Rob Curry, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, said: “Education, transport, infrastructure and community facilities are all among the areas that benefit from planning contributions and we are delighted to be providing these facilities as part of our St. Crispin’s Place development.

The development has, however, caused some controversy in surrounding areas, as residents in Main Road, Duston have been left concerned by the potential increased traffic flow and measures implemented to handle this.
