Restaurant staff overwhelmed by Mother’s Day message

A mystery would-be diner who missed Mother’s Day lunch at a popular Oundle restaurant has stunned staff by sending a letter of support - and the money they would have spent on the day.

The anonymous letter and £80 cash arrived at the Tap and Kitchen, a riverside venue at Oundle Wharf, today. It read: “We were among the many not able to enjoy our Mother’s Day lunch with you.

“Please find enclosed what we would have spent. Stay safe.”

General manager Dan Coshan, commented: “This letter came from someone in Thrapston. It’s kindness and selflessness in a crazy time has really touched us.

“We are overwhelmed with the support of our team and our loyal customers.

“Navigating this is all new and we hope to welcome everyone again when it’s all over.

“Meanwhile we urge people to stay safe and focus on the wellbeing of the many.”

He added that the restaurant had received many kind messages and thoughts and many had refused their Mother’s Day deposit refunds in lieu of a visit in the future.
