Pasta cooked just how chef’s Italian grandmother made it at La Pazienza restaurant in Northampton

Everyone knows that grandmothers make the best homemade dishes if you love Italian food – this is the restaurant in Northampton where the owner is using his nonna’s original recipes . . .  and she worked as a professional chef!

If you love Italian food, then this is the restaurant to try in Northampton where the owner has honoured his grandmother by putting her original recipes on the menu.

Newly-refurbished La Pazienza is a hidden gem at Wellingborough Road, serving authentic Italian cuisine for those lucky enough to share the secret.

Who wouldn’t want to try nonna’s Penne con salsiccia affumicata  e funghi with smoked smoked Italian pork sausage, mushrooms, fresh peppers, onion and garlic in a homemade tomato sauce, finished with fresh Italian herbs for a tasty & delicious plate of pasta?

This is no ordinary Italian restaurant – owner Orlando Lupsa has gone back to his roots to put traditional dishes on the menu, including Fettucine funghi e straccetti di vitello, with mixed mushrooms and strips of veal steak cooked in a buttery wine sauce and finished with fresh oregano.

“My passion for cooking came from my grandmother in Sicily. She made the best home-cooked dishes and also worked as a chef.

“I have put her recipes with more traditional dishes on our menu for everyone to enjoy – and we cook them using the best quality fresh produce we can buy.”

Orlando Lupsa

You will find nonna’s dishes alongside favourites including Spaghetti alla carbonara, Penne ai quattro formaggi and 28-day matured fillet steak, slow-cooked lamb chops topped with a creamy parmesan sauce and salmon fillet cooked with olives, cherry tomatoes and served with a dijonnaise sauce and asparagus.

For fish lovers, Gamberi al marsala is fresh prawns cooked in sweet Sicilian dessert wine sauce, while the restaurant also serves a selection of rich risotto dishes to make your mouth water.

New-look restaurant

Orlando added: “We really care about our customers and want everyone to enjoy their experience with us. We cook with the best local produce and put good comfort food on our plates.”

While they serve the best cuisine, there is no reason to dress up in a tie. Orlando wants diners – and families – to be comfortable in his stylish restaurant which has been refurbished for 2024.

Fine Italian wines also accompany the dishes, as well as imported beer for the flavour of drinks you would usually only taste on holiday in Italy.
