Jimmy's Sports Bar in Harlestone Road, St James, has applied to extend its opening hours and serve alcohol from morning through to night.

In a public notice published in the Chronicle and Echo newspaper, the bar's application plans to open at 11am and close at 11pm from Monday to Thursday.

On Friday it plans to open at 11am and close at 1am; Saturdays would open at 10am and close at 1am; Sundays would open at 10am and close at 10.30pm; Bank Holidays would open at 10am and close at 1am.

If the plans go through, the bar would be allowed to serve alcohol within the new opening hours.

A spokesman from the sports bar said: "The main reason we are applying for this is so that the rooftop can stay open as the same hours as the main building as we do not want people loitering around the neighbouring streets as it would be less of a nuisance to keep it within our building.

"We are trying to work with the community to bring business to the area, creating jobs and maintaining a good relationship with the local area."

The bar's current opening times are Monday from 3pm to 11pm; Tuesday 3pm to 11pm; Wednesday 3pm to 11pm; Thursday 3pm to 11pm; Friday 11am to 1.30am; Saturday 10am to 1.30am; Sunday 10am to 10pm.

A Northampton Borough Council spokesperson said those who would like to voice their concerns can contact them in writing at [email protected] no later than Friday, April 2.

The bar was visited by Environmental Health officers back in October. The officers reported they had found customers standing in groups, when government guidance stated that customers should only consume food and drink when seated. The owner of the bar disputed that customers were stood in groups.
