Final pictures Disco Henry took of revellers at a huge Northampton nightclub before it was destroyed by a fire in 2012

Take a look back at 25 photos captured by local 'mini-celebrity' Disco Henry on the final night before a huge Northampton nightclub was destroyed by fire and never reopened.

Since 2004, Disco Henry has been capturing the nightlife in Northampton and Wellingborough nightclubs.

He has a photo album capturing the last time he snapped revellers at the former Fat Cats Cafe in Bridge Street on Boxing Day evening 2011, just weeks before it burned down in January 2012.

The former Angel Hotel, which housed both Fat Cats Cafe Bar and Balloon Bar, became an eyesore on Bridge Street after the fire, accidentally ignited by a roofer's torch. The Fat Cats section, built between 1814 and 1816, stood propped up by scaffolding for over a decade. While Fat Cats never reopened, Balloon Bar briefly resumed operations in July 2013, only to close permanently in 2019. This summer, the entire building was finally demolished to make way for flats.

In an previous interview with the Chronicle & Echo, Disco Henry said: “When people look back at my photos, they remember how fantastic their nights out were. Some nights, I would take a thousand photos. I’ve probably met and photographed millions of people.

“My favourite years were between 2006 and 2015. The best nights were at NB’s and Lava Ignite because of the large crowds. Embargos and Groove were fantastic too. It was a lot more fun ten years ago, with a stronger sense of camaraderie.”
