Events at Duston Village Bakery typically pull a crowd as the business is at the heart of the village community, and one of the most recent was the celebration of its centenary anniversary in June 2025.
The much-loved bakery was once known as Faulkner’s and the building was bought from the Amos family by the Faulkner family for just £15 back in 1925.
It was taken over by Jenni Smith in January 2012, who believes that prior to the building’s use as a bakery it was a butchers.
Jenni has worked at the bakery for around 35 years, and began as a Saturday girl before working her way up to owning the business more than two decades later.

When she took over the bakery, Jenni’s two main aims were to do the best she could and to make people proud of Duston.
The pandemic was the pivotal moment when Jenni realised how important Duston Village Bakery is to the community, as they delivered to so many during unprecedented times.
The business is now praised as “the hub of the village” and Jenni is proud of how it is still going strong despite price hikes in recent years.
Co-hosting the event alongside Jenni is Dawn Watts from The Confectionist, a well-loved business in the county.
With more than 25 years in the confectionery trade, Dawn has passion, skill and sweet expertise which she will proudly bring to Duston Food Festival.
The Geordie, with Northamptonshire in her soul, also has six years of experience hosting food festivals across the North-East.
“I am extremely excited to be part of this festival – being involved in a local community, welcoming new faces, and reconnecting with old friends,” said Dawn on social media. “I’ll be giving my all to help make it the very best it can be.”
It is likely that Duston Food Festival will gain more traction as the date of the event nears, so get in quick to secure your pitch.
One supporter took to social media to say she has already put the event in her calendar and is looking forward to it, despite it being seven months away.
