A Northampton father and son due behind a homegrown brownie baking business are asking for their town's help to win a national award.

John and Leo Lashley from Brooklyn Brownie Co are in the running for the Great British Entrepreneur's 'Food and Drink Heroes' award - a prize set up just for businesses who overcame the pandemic to keep serving customers.

The pair are in the running for the Food & Drink Heroes' Baked Goods Entrepreneur of the Year, a people's choice award that needs your vote.

John said: "I hope Northampton can get behind us again and help us bring this award home for the town. We're the only business from Northampton in the running and we want to do it proud."

For the two-man team out of Northampton, they expected they would have to call it quits when the pandemic hit last year.

But instead they found they had to up their ante and ship out 1,000 of their American-inspired brownies a day to keep up with the UK's chocolate cravings.

Now, after a year of constant work and growing their operations to 10,000 brownies a day, John and Leo are asking for their town's support to win the national award.

John said: "I think we made it because we were able to pivot and adapt. When the lockdown started I was ready to quit and go back to my old job, but orders flooded in. So we adapted and sorted out our production chain and made it work.

"It would be fantastic to win. This is the first ever Food and Drink Heroes and it would mean so much to bring it home."
