TRANSPORT
The issue: Last week, letter writer Elaine Lenton wrote about her experiences on public transport and the concern that few people seemed to be wearing masks.
My X6 bus from town to Grange park at 7.05 on Friday morning, the bus driver asked all passengers for a face covering. If they didn’t have one she let them on and gave them an information sheet to read, which I thought was a good way to deal with the situation.
Bus drivers are not police.
People need to take responsibility for themselves.

The bus driver had a mask.

Everyone seems to get on with a mask and take it off. So far, I’ve had four journeys all seeing this. Several of these passengers coughing and sneezing while the mask is sitting under their chin.
I leave mine on the whole journey as much as I hate it! One woman yesterday was even shouting at me “I won’t wear one!” Thank God for earphones!

In all fairness to stagecoach they have put inspectors out along the Drapery and stops that are busy. So many wearing the mask to get on the bus then pulling them down once seated and the driver can’t keep stopping the bus to check. It’s no hardship to wear one.

Hide AdI regularly use the number 4 bus for work as l don’t drive. l wear a mask as l understood that you weren’t allowed on the bus without a mask unless you were exempt. l queried this with the driver who told me his bosses told drivers not to confront passengers and to allow them on and if the bus was stopped by the police those passengers not wearing a mask would be fined £100.

The number one bus to Favell the other day was a joke. I was wearing a mask and sat on a window chair with no one in front or behind as told to do so on the bus windows.
By the time the bus moved almost every one that got on no one had a mask and the driver also didn’t question anyone. Also missed seats were being occupied so I was surrounded with people unprotected. It’s not on and should not be allowed.

People – just wear a mask, it’s to protect all you come in contact with. You’re only wearing it whilst in close proximity of others.

I understand if they can’t wear a mask. but please cover when coughing and sneezing - surely people carry tissues.

Well done to all the schools that are getting their pupils in if only part time.

Hide AdThis is better than nothing, my grandchildren are so pleased to be going back if only for a couple of days. They w ere getting so fed up and missing their routine.

Whilst it is fantastic that this school has managed to accommodate all of its
pupils, every primary school across the country will have different circumstances which may mean that it is just not possible to do this. This could be due to lack of space, insufficient staffing or specific needs of pupils.
What we should bear in mind is that whatever decision your child’s school has made, the headteacher and leadership team will have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks to come up with the best possible plan in a nightmare situation to bring back as many children as they possibly can, but with the safety of the staff and pupils as their number 1 priority.

Fantastic to hear about another school achieving this.
The very best model to support children’s emotional well-being and takes a true team
approach.
Well done!

The issue: Volunteers have been picking up litter in Abington Park after parkgoers left a “sea of litter”.
Makes me so angry. How hard is it to take your rubbish home? If you brought it you are quite capable of taking it away again ! It is no ones

I would like to see suitable punishment for littering. Instead of or as well as fines get them cleaning up for community service.
Maybe if they are made to clear up they might get some pride in keeping it
clean.

Thank goodness there are good folk around that can counter the behaviour of not so good folk.
No excuse for this at all, if you can carry it there I’m sure you can carry the wrapping home!
