A seven-year-old who has a ‘crazy imagination’ and loves doing anything creative has written a children’s book.

Holly Soorty, from Abington, decided at the start of the first national lockdown that she wanted to write a story.

The youngster had already competed in a short story competition when she penned a tale about a girl meeting the Queen.

Now, after spending lockdown working hard, Holly has become a published author thanks to her story called ‘The Alien Girl’ - about a young girl who has a secret she hides from her parents as likes to play pranks on them.

Holly said: “I just wanted to write a book for fun and the ideas just came into my head.

“I’m really excited that people can buy my book as I might be able to write more and become a famous author.

“I like reading and writing at school and one of my teachers has now got my book.”

Holly’s dad, Majid Soorty, added: “She loves being creative anyway with drawing, colouring and making things and she often makes up her own little stories.

“One day she was on the computer and she just said ‘I’m going to write a little book’. She just felt like doing it.

“The ideas were all hers, she wrote it all and did the drawing for the front cover, without asking for any help from us.

“My sister, who has also written a book, was Holly’s biggest encouragement.

“After Holly had spent a couple of months writing it, my sister told her we could try and get it on Amazon.

“We are really proud of her. It’s nice that she spent all that spare time doing something constructive and educational.”

The family knows of around ten to 15 orders of the book, which only went on sale on Amazon earlier this week.
