The volunteering team at Northampton General Hospital have been set a special challenge...by none other than Father Christmas himself.

NGH Volunteer Services Team has received a personal letter from Santa challenging to walk the equivalent of Northampton to Lapland - about 3,550km - as a team between now and December 1.

"In light of this, I would really like to give you all a Christmas gift. But, it comes with an additional challenge. I would like you all, as a team, to walk the distance of 3,550km - this is the distance from Northampton to Lapland.

"If you can rise to the challenge and complete this before December 1 then I have a special gift in store for you and your team," Santa said.

It doesn't say what the special gift will be but he adds: "Continue to be you and continue to put patients at the heart of everything you do."

The team will be updating its progress via social media.
