The letter, which was shared by an officer on Twitter, said: “My name is Nick and I work with your mum or dad - or in some cases both of them - and I am the Chief Constable for Northamptonshire Police.
“I wanted to send you a letter because it is important that you know how grateful I am for everything that they are doing on behalf of all of the people of Northamptonshire.
“They are working harder than ever at the moment to keep everyone safe. Whatever job they are doing for the police, whether this is now at home (and you have to be really quiet), or if they are still coming in, please know that their work is really important.

Your mum or dad may still be going to work when some people don’t have to. This is because of the important job they do, so I want to say a big thank you for sharing them with us and everyone they are helping.
“It must be really hard that you have all missed important things to you, like birthdays, sports, special events at school or just time with your family and friends. I want to thank you for helping Northamptonshire Police keeping people safe by keeping quiet when mum and dad have calls to make; by washing your hands properly; by doing your school work or by only taking one walk a day. They may seem like small things but these make it possible for your mum and dad to work and this makes you part of the team.
“Please let your mum and dad know that what they are doing at the moment is really special, be proud of them! When you clap on Thursday night, remember that you are clapping for them too.
“From me, a big thank you. We really couldn’t do this without you.”
