Golden Years Northampton and NARA the Breathing Charity have each been awarded £1,000 funding from Persimmon Homes Midlands to continue their good work.

The housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Persimmon has pledged to focus all its Community Champions funding to help the over-70s, who are most affected by the lockdown.

Claire Dearsley, sales director for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “Covid-19 is having a massive impact on older people, so we are pleased to support two organisations taking practical steps to support these members of our communities.”

Northampton-based NARA provides medical equipment, advice and support to elderly patients with chronic, complex or life-limiting health conditions and disabilities which cause acute respiratory problems. The Covid-19 pandemic has created higher demand for the charity’s services at the same time as restricting opportunities for fundraising activities, so Persimmon’s donation will help to continue the good work. Golden Years was founded to enhance the lives of local people through social events and activities. Proving age is no barrier to a good time, members of the group have tackled indoor skydiving, supercar driving days and a cocktail masterclass. Based in Wellingborough, the charity has been running its services remotely during lockdown, delivering meals to vulnerable and isolated people and maintaining vital telephone contact.
