An F1 museum that opened just a week before the pandemic forced it to close again is set to reopen later this month.

The Silverstone Experience, a museum built in a restored World War Two RAF hangar at the Silverstone Circuit, will reopen on Monday July, 20, in time for the children’s school holidays.

Prince Harry and Lewis Hamilton officially opened the museum back in March, however a week later it had to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While in lockdown, the museum staff have prepared a safe and fun environment for F1 fans to enjoy and have achieved the Visit England ‘We’re Good to Go’ consumer mark.

Sally Reynolds, CEO of The Silverstone Experience said: “We are really excited to be reopening as the summer holidays begin.

“It was only a week after Lewis Hamilton and The Duke of Sussex officially opened our museum in March that lockdown began.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure all our visitors can enjoy a safe and exciting visit, as our Visit England ‘We’re Good to Go’ award shows.

“We know that lots of families will be looking for an exciting day out away from the crowds and with our rural location, huge indoor space and limited daily visitors, we are the perfect choice.

“With our amazing interactives and brilliant collection of motorsport artefacts – from a car that competed in the first Formula 1 race 70 years ago, to the helmet Lewis Hamilton won his sixth world title with last year - we know that racing fans who are missing the action will have a fantastic day out, too.”

Visitors will be able to see cars and bikes from seven decades of motorsport history and there is a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

To ensure the attraction is Covid-secure, visitors will be encouraged to use stylus pens to operate interactive touch screens, hand sanitiser stations have been set up around the exhibition and the huge hangar is an ideal space to observe social distancing guidelines.

Pre-booked, timed tickets are also part of the safety measures as the museum will limit the number of people on site at any given time.

Tickets are now available to purchase for July 20 on wards, with slots between 10am and 6pm, including the two weekends that Silverstone is hosting a Grand Prix, although the circuit is not visible from the museum.

Visit the Silverstone Experience website to book tickets and view the full list of Covid-19 measures.
