A huge dinosaur that has previously roamed the streets of a Northamptonshire village is going out on tour.

Reggie the Rex, also known as Darren Smith, headed out on his daily walk in Boughton back in April. The walk round was intended to make children, looking on from windows, smile during a difficult time, which it accomplished, as well as so much more.

After the 14-foot, or five-metre, dinosaur wowed the village and further afield via social media, Darren received so many requests to take Reggie to other areas of Northampton so more children could see him.

Darren, who hosts children’s birthday parties and had the costume in his garage, said: “After the original walk round, we had so many people commenting on Facebook asking us to go here and there.

“At the time we couldn’t do it because we were only allowed once daily exercise and only essential travel.

“But now we’ve decided to take Reggie out on tour for a day.

“We will hire a van and go to as many places as we can. We’re thinking between three and five places.

“We had so many comments when it came out the first time and it’s just a nice thing to do, so we’ll try to see as many children as we can.”

The lifelike costume, which sits on Darren’s shoulders and is steered like a bike, can roar and blink so is awe inspiring for children.

To decide where Reggie goes on his day tour, Darren is asking people to vote on his Facebook page.

He has already been inundated with areas people want the huge dinosaur to visit, but Darren is keen to hear from more people.

At the end of the week, he will then look through all the comments and pick the places that are most popular before announcing the route and the day of the tour.
