Every year, the members of the Rotary Club of Northampton Becket work hard to navigate Father Christmas around to say hello to all the children but this year, it will be from a distance because Santa doesn't want to get poorly.

Rotarian Terry Atkinson said: "“Rotary Becket is delighted that we will be able to help Santa visit the children again.

"We have received many enquiries through social media asking if he will be able to visit.

"The members have been spending the last few weeks refurbishing the sleigh with new lights so it will be easier to see Santa coming.

"Rotary relies on the generous support of Northampton people at this time to enable them to support many local community causes.”

Starting on Friday, December 12, Santa will be making his way through Roade village before ending his tour of Northamptonshire on Tuesday, December 22 when he stops off at Granary Road, in East Hunsbury.

Although Santa will tour the streets on his sleigh, this year it will not be possible for his helpers to knock on doors.

Instead, the sleigh will stop briefly at a number of published stops for people who would like to wave from a distance and donate to the Rotary Becket’s Charity Fund, which helps support good causes through the year.

There will be buckets laid out by the sleigh for money to be dropped in and, this year, contactless machines for anyone who would like to make a payment by card.
